Deposition Rule #13 for Florida Divorce

When asked a question in your St. Petersburg divorce deposition that calls for a "Yes" or "No" answer, just give that answer. Do not elaborate. If the best divorce lawyer in St. Petersburg is representing you and feels that elaboration is necessary, that lawyer will ask to elaborate after the attorney questioning you is finished.

It is not in your best interest to provide any information that is not asked for. Often, an elaborate answer to a simple question in a Florida divorce or paternity case gives the appearance that the deponent is trying to convince the questioner of the truth and makes the questioner, and anyone who reads the deposition transcript, suspicious.

It is natural to feel defensive at a deposition. It is best not to let that show by giving elaborate answers to simple questions.
